mary jane vs. mary jane. manolo vs. marc.
Sep 19th, 2011 by shallow

i have a thing for classic shoe designs. brogues. d’orsays. loafers. my favorite are mary janes (write up here).

therefore, it should go without saying that my favorite pieces in this season’s new york fashion week (so far) are the mary jane heels at marc jacobs. if i had those in my cabinet, i would stare lecherously at them until they sue me for harassment.

but wait. does this not look familiar to you?

we are all stars
Apr 5th, 2011 by shallow

dolce & gabbana runway photos from coco’s tea party.

man, how much i used to love stars. it was a minor obsession. i say minor because i wouldn’t die for them, but obsession nonetheless because i spent good money to acquire them and a lot of effort to stick small luminous stars all over my room’s ceiling and all four walls. they were all over me in the form of jewelries, clothes, downloaded logos (remember those pixelated things in the 90′s?), school supplies and tons of doodles that seem to ooze out of every page of every subject notebook.

i’m still very fascinated by stars, though i don’t have the natural inclination to doodle them as often anymore. but i could just imagine how my old self would have burst into spontaneous broadway song at the sight of dolce & gabbana’s a/w 2011 collection.

2010 came and went just like that. and here we are in 2011 with another wishlist that never ends.
Jan 22nd, 2011 by shallow

ah, yes. still too lazy to assemble meaningful text. but i can’t let the first month of the year pass without a post.

and there’s nothing like dreaming of material things to stroke the superficial soul. good thing i didn’t apply for a credit card here. for the sake of my mental health, i most likely wouldn’t.

love, chloe edp

ankle and mid-calf socks with heels
Jun 23rd, 2010 by shallow

early this year, there were knee-high socks. ironically, as the weather in most designer-influenced countries started to become colder, the socks went down to the ankles in catwalks all over fashion capitals.

ankle socks and mid-calf socks with heels aren’t exactly new (e.g., burberry prorsum ss09 and ss08), but it seems they occur more frequently this season.

you see them in ankle boots…

je ne sais quoi: you’ll know it when you see it (a promod stylista challenge)
Apr 27th, 2010 by shallow

je ne sais quoi, literally “i don’t know what”. it refers to that abstract quality in a person that makes her attractive or makes her stand out from a crowd. it’s that elusive “it” factor, that certain “something” we often refer to when we know one looks distinctively stylish yet we can’t come up with words to describe why it is such.

in simpler and local terms: may dating. how many times have you encountered a lady who looks so beautifully individual in her manner of dressing and demeanor that you turn your head to look at her in awe but can’t find the adjectives to describe why you like her look? that’s may dating. that’s je ne sais quoi.

and this is where the fun begins. french fashion retailer promod challenged bloggers to come up with five different looks that embody that intangible quality better known as je ne sais quoi. for this rare stylista-for-a-day opportunity, jill of kikay exchange was gracious enough to invite me as her partner.

spot the difference: genuine leather vs. faux leather
Apr 19th, 2010 by shallow

you know if you buy your leather goods from high-end stores where items cost an arm and a leg that you have got the genuine article.

hey, i have nothing against faux leather, i use the material an awful lot, but i sure want to know how to tell one from the other so i don’t get highway robbed in bargain situations. and i sure love tiangges.

the girl from ipanema goes walking
Apr 5th, 2010 by shallow

i’m so glad to see that many pinay bloggers have written about ipanema flip-flops. when these brazilian brands came to the philippines some years ago (post-havaianas), i happened to be one of the first few who purchased their items: a pair of gold flip-flops as a gift, together with a pair of grendha sandals for me. i’ve loved them ever since.

i love ipanema flip-flops! i love them so much more than havaianas. that’s just me… i find them more comfortable and their designs are a lot more attractive. and i don’t just mean the prints. i mean aside from the ordinary thong sandals in plain colors, they also have bold prints and strappy sandals.

and gisele bunchen’s ads for the brand are definitely some of the most gorgeous you can see around.

back! and does my blog possess “the secret”?
Apr 1st, 2010 by shallow

just arrived in the country last night. i missed the philippines but i miss fiji now… nevertheless, i’m happy to be back!

the first thing we did when i got here? eat crispy pata and tokwa’t baboy, naturally!

and before the stores closed for the holidays this week, i was able to accompany my cousin to makati and squeeze in some minor shopping.
