i did say last year that gwyneth’s red carpet style is somewhat of a hit-and-miss for me. this year, she’s my absolute favorite. i like it when i don’t have to toss a coin to determine who i think is best dressed.

would you wear a peplum dress like…
just like this time last year, i’ve been too disenchanted to write timely posts about red carpet events. therefore the critics choice awards, people’s choice awards and the golden globes have all come and gone without a trace in my inspiration reserve. i think it also didn’t help that i found the fashion a little underwhelming with a glimmer of hope from emma stone’s tux-inspired gucci ensemble and angelina jolie in atelier versace + brad pitt with a cane. someone tell me please who brad was wearing. angie’s dress is officially a candidate for my favorite dress of the year. as if my opinion matters. but that’s besides the point.
so i have decided to just write about the first thing that came to my mind as i was aimlessly looking at the red carpet arrivals: ladies are still wearing calvin klein with the following details:
is this the look of the decade?
no matter how pretty the packaging.
it’s over two hours now into the new year. our part of the world gets to experience new year before everyone else. not that it makes any difference in the grand scheme of things. it just makes me want to get on a plane and cross the international date line so i can experience another new year a day later. wouldn’t that be something? it would feel a little like time traveling.
this year, i think the best red carpet looks belong to two ladies. and they’re both named emma.
if there’s such a thing as a wish list, there must also be an unwish list.
don’t get me wrong, i seriously like presents, no matter how discordant the items are from my interests. i appreciate the thought and i find a childlike wonder in the sense of mystery surrounding each glittering box under the tree.
but let’s admit it. you also have a list of things you would rather not get.
in no particular order:
just about a week ago, i decided to take skincare and overall health seriously. i want to look every bit the “hip and happening lola” (term coined by my cousin) we used to aspire to back in high school. i’m taking this seriously now because of leroy bell. looking at him, i am convinced that anybody can look that smashing at 60 with great care and responsibility.
i think it was some time in 2008 when i decided that wide-leg pants are my staple outfit. now i have five pairs of them in denim, two pairs in black, one pair in khaki and one pair in cream. as you can see, i try my best to show some commitment to styles i like.
