royal style no. 1: queen rania of jordan
May 26th, 2011 by shallow

watching the wedding of prince william to kate, and anticipating prince albert of monaco’s to olympic swimmer charlene wittstock, reignited my interest to all things royal. i used to follow the very public lives of royal families as much as a schoolgirl could in the pre-internet era of magazine and newspaper clippings. i am by no means a monarchist (neither am i opposed to the form of government), but i harbor this unfettered fascination for modern day fairy tales as only royalty can realize. i suppose this is one of my guilty pleasures, my little indulgence, the keeping track of people born to a rich history of crowns and sceptres. or at least married into it, whatever.

so i am consequentially inspired to write about the styles of my favorite royal ladies. starting of course with the one whose fashion sense i admire the most, and possibly the closest i have to a girl crush, the current queen consort of jordan, rania al abdullah.

warning: this is a photo-overloaded entry. i am so in love with her style, i couldn’t suffer through selecting only a few of her best outfits. i gave up choosing after the third edit.

to me, queen rania is the most beautiful royal alive today. that is not open for debate. she is as well the busiest. i wouldn’t even attempt to enumerate her achievements here, so if you’re interested to know about them, please visit our favorite information resource, wikipedia. on top of all that, one of the most stylish too.

style elements:

  • relaxed, blousy tops
  • ultra feminine details like ruffles, bows or puff sleeves
  • long skirts
  • boot cut or wide leg pants
  • cropped jackets
  • belts
  • hoop or drop earrings in simple but attractive designs
  • headbands
  • hair in loose waves or soft up-dos

formal

my most favorite of her formal dresses is the one she wore for the time magazine event honoring the world’s most influential people in 2007 (she made that list).

business/cocktail

her business attire that strikes me most is this, the turtleneck sweater under a military style jacket and sensible wide leg trousers.

casual

accessories

i found the next set of photos here and i’m so glad someone zoned into her accessories.

photos from zimbio and daily mail, unless other wise indicated.

I love her, too! This post is great. I love how she dresses. Well, not the tie-dyed dress haha but everything else is mindblowing, just like the Queen!

mind blowing is right! i like the tie dye dress haha i do wish she didn’t layer a shirt underneath it, but i think there’s a bikini top. perhaps there are some rules of propriety in attire being a queen.
