after the glitz of the golden globes and the oscars, and the glamorous exaggerations of the grammys, i like that the nickelodeon kids’ choice awards comes next. no carpet-grazing designer gowns nor sparkling rocks that weigh a ton. just outfits more relaxed, hair and makeup less high-maintenance. after all, it is best to expect slime during the show, so better not show up in threads that get ruined in contact with green goo.
one thing we notice: no matter how less formal clothes can go on these occasions, heels always maintain their height. i love this trend! i love sky-high stilettos. i would wear them to a corn field if i could.
selena gomez. my favorite of the day, hands down! i think this one is downright pretty, from the loosely plaited hair, the sunny yellow chiffon dress and the metallic beaded belt. i must say i am pining for those shoes and that clutch, they are the best!

last night we watched julie and julia on dvd. i am not getting off the couch to give a standing ovation and i’d most likely not remember it by tomorrow, but i have to say i did get a few moments of realization watching it.
oh, and daylight savings time ended this morning.
please excuse the semi-personal tone and the randomness of this entry. inasmuch as i would like to maintain a considerable emotional distance from this site, my personal blog is not worth its own domain, therefore is still feeling the residual effects of censorship. so this one would have to feel the cathartic blow in behalf of its alter ego.
when i love something, i have to know where it came from, how it came about and what caused its existence. yes, i am a nerd, now bully me in the playground during recess if you can.
everybody who knows me well knows i can’t go out sans mascara. so it is but natural to look up its history. do read on because this involves how maybelline started and how max factor revolutionized makeup. it also has ancient spirits and crocodile dung… yes, that’s what i said. you decide whether this last one is fact or fallacy.

here i am again in search of the best shampoo and conditioner in town! and my latest find comes from the purist company of australia.
started in 1987, the purist company’s hair care range made from all natural ingredients have been around long before organic hair products were all the rage. in 1998, the body and skin care range was added to their growing family.
if there is any idol contestant, then and now, who can rightfully sing the epic song “you’re the voice”, that would be siobhan.
this song has been sung before by david archuleta in the top 10 of ai season 7. neither randy nor paula knew the song and they gave him good remarks. simon, on the other hand, was aware of the song and its singer… and you know what simon says when he isn’t pleased.
here is the original version by john farnham:
… bob hairstyle, that is.
i’ve been contemplating on shearing my hair short because i’ve just been too lazy on the upkeep. as i looked around online for short hairstyles, i saw an interesting piece on the history of the bob. and how tough a time did the bob go through in history? according to the article: Preachers warned parishioners that “a bobbed woman is a disgraced woman.â€Â Men divorced their wives over bobbed hair.
i have noticed that many of my favorite red carpet dresses are from atelier versace (like demi moore and elizabeth banks in the oscars, drew barrymore in the golden globes, marisa tomei last year, penelope cruz the other year… there’s too many, i have to stop here otherwise i won’t shut up), so seeing their lookbook every season is quite exciting.
atelier versace has posted the spring 2010 lookbook. which of these dresses do you think will translate well on the red carpet? who do you think can wear them?
the geek gods. actors who have played literary, video game and/or cult movie roles geek dreams are made of. these are the actors who have been, in turn, leotard-clad/reinforced torso comic book characters, inter-stellar spacers in human forms, profound/eccentric/ethereal individuals from timeless fiction and computer games…
of course there are leonard nimoy, mark hamill, etc. “hall of fame” geek-worshipped actors that will put even the most aloof of fanboys in starstruck mode to last for weeks. but the modern age of graphic effects has brought us an onslaught of films that will rock einstein and newton in their graves; along with it, a whole slew of movie personalities that make the thousand-sit-ups-a-day routine some backyard hobby for any aspiring actor.
here are the top ten sci-fi fantasy, literary cult actors still active today who, based on my humble opinion, landed the coolest, most enviable roles:
update: i wanted to keep this a top ten, but now that i think about it carefully, there are two more actors who deserve to be adored by geeks. so here’s the top 12, the coolest dozen:
12. gerard butler
last week, when rolling stones was declared the next theme, i thought i could just hit a dog with the idea of a rolling stones week without tyler grady (ok, voice not as strong as mick jagger, blah, blah, blah. since when has idol been about the vocals? it’s an image contest, most likely). it was like big band week in season 3 without the then 16-year-old dean martin, orange-haired, freckle-faced john stevens.
goodbye, ruby tuesday. goodbye, lacey. at least she made it to the top 12… and 12th is as high as she got.
we still think lacey is one of the most attractive girls to grace the idol stage. my husband says, “i hope you wouldn’t mind if i go out with lacey.” and i say, “of course i don’t mind. i’m going out with lee.”
wanting is my least favorite feeling. that is, if you call that a feeling. otherwise, wanting is my least favorite action. because in order to satisfy it, one needs money. and if one is not willing to part with money, the feeling has to be suppressed. or the action has to be corrected, if you consider it that. whichever way one wishes to deal with wanting, it’s not a very pleasant business.
as for me, whenever i feel a strong sense of wanting things, i write about them. it gives me a feeling of accommodation… a very misplaced security, but security nonetheless. as if by committing images of these things in my blog makes them mine in a very existential sense. ok, it’s a very perverted view of consumerism, but it sure beats the hell out of overspending. besides, i’d probably end up actually purchasing one or two of the things in consideration (especially if they are on sale; in which circumstance, i can blame marketing for ruining my budget). then i can move on with my life.
